According to my photo records, the first of the Cyclamen hederifolium flowers was about July 25 ( I may have missed photographing the flower by a day or two or three). The last of the flowers has not yet faded. This means that this plant has been blooming for more than 3 months. Considering that crocuses bloom for a few days, and most perennials for a couple of weeks, this is phenomenal. Well before the last flowers fade, the leaves appear, and the leaves are a show in themselves. In fact, many people grow Cyclamen hederifolium primarily for the leaves, and some nurseries sell plants by their leaf forms. This show lasts all winter, the leaves disappearing with the warm weather. These qualities make this plant particularly valuable, since it provides color and texture at exactly the times when the garden needs it the most.
