autumn jester

Miniature bearded iris 'Autumn Jester' may be named for it's ability to bloom in the autumn, but it is the first of my miniature bearded irises to bloom this year (last year it was 'Alpine Lake'). This year seems to be running a little later, April 1 vs. March 26 last year.

Other photos confirm that last year was earlier. My tree peony was in bloom March 25 last year, but it still hasn't opened as of today. The redbuds are in full bloom now, and last year they were finishing by now. 'Autumn Jester' didn't bloom this past autumn. I may need to be more diligent about watering and fertilizing in order to get that second flush.
