la paz

Hippeastrum (amaryllis) 'La Paz' isn't as common as the large flowered hippeastrums (known commonly as "Amaryllis" that people grow for bloom at Christmas, and then discard. It is one of the cybister hybrids, which have a more spidery flower. I wasn't sure I liked it when I first purchased it, but like many orchids, as the years pass and the plant gets bigger, it turns into a whole different animal.

Here in 2012:

Now here in 2018.

I think I like it better than the large flowered Christmas amaryllis. With this many flowers, there is a longer bloom season since some are fading as others are just coming out. 14 scapes this year.
